Brand history

The company was formed in Paris after the merger of two companies - Essel and Silor. The history of the Essel brand dates back to the 19th century and at first it was a chain of optical stores. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the company acquired a couple of French factories that produced lenses for glasses.

In 1959, Essel made a revolution and launched the world's first progressive ophthalmic lenses, Varilux. The Silor company was founded in 1931, and 25 years later, it invented the material for creating Orma 1000 lenses. On January 1, 1972, the famous merger of companies took place and the birth of the new Essilor brand.

Coating characteristics

Crizal Prevencia is the most advanced coating in the Crizal UV coating line. Thanks to innovative Light Scan technology, it protects the eyes from harmful blue-violet light, which is the cause of AMD (age-related macular degeneration), and allows in beneficial blue-violet light, necessary for the functioning of the human biological clock and overall well-being. The coating retains all the benefits of the Crizal Forte UV top coating - it protects from UV radiation reflected from the back surface of the lens, and the lens from glare, scratches, smudges, water droplets and dust. The residual reflex is lilac and light green in color. The contact angle is 116°. Light transmission - 98%. Components of Crizal Prevencia coating:

The entire range of visible blue light can be divided into blue-violet and blue-cyan. Each of them has its own special effect on our body. Radiation in the blue-violet spectrum of light has been associated with the risk of developing retinal diseases (AMD). In addition, blue light emitted by electronic gadget screens causes eye strain. The blue-blue range, on the contrary, is useful for humans, it is involved in the processes of controlling sleep and wakefulness, and affects our emotions, memory, and learning ability. The Light Scan technology found in Crizal Prevencia coating selectively filters out harmful blue-violet light, allowing beneficial blue-violet light to pass through the lens unimpeded. At the same time, long-term work at the computer does not cause fatigue, and eye health is maintained for a long time.

  • Precal is a system for optimizing the thickness of positive lenses. The option is used only for plus lenses and allows you to optimize their thickness for the specific selected frame. Optimizing plus lenses does not always give a gain in thickness, since this depends on the properties of the lens material, its diopter, the shape of the frame and the alignment of the lens in the frame
  • Making a lens with a prism (step 0.25D)
  • Making lenses with decentration. Applicable only to spherical design lenses (excluding polarized lenses). The decentration value can be 1 mm or more in increments of 0.5 mm. The recommended decentration for one eye is up to 5 mm. The maximum permissible is 8mm per eye, but is not recommended due to the occurrence of prism
  • Optimize lens diameter. It is 5mm (standard) or more in 1mm increments (as agreed with the manufacturer).
  • Manufacturing lenses of a given thickness (for unground lenses) for anisometropia, small negative diopters when installed in frames on a fishing line and with screws, to thicken the lens in the center

What are essilor lenses?

The concern produces a huge range of ophthalmic products, from simple glasses to exclusive designer models. Finished products with optical parameters or individually created glasses can also be ordered here.

Most essilor eyeglass lenses are created in Lab Crizal. If the order is sent to France, you will need to wait up to three weeks.

Spectacle lens series:

  1. Orma 15 – made of CR-39 plastic, which is durable and lightweight.
  2. Orma Thin is a sophisticated analogue of the previous series.
  3. Orma Thin Optifog is an innovative Essilor series with an anti-fog coating. This effect is achieved with a special liquid. One application is enough for a week-long effect.
  4. Orma PhysioTint – Orma 1.5 tinted polymer lenses. They are used to protect against ultraviolet radiation and bright lighting.
  5. FSV 1.56/Sharp 1.6 is a thin and light variant of the orma 1.5 series with a more refined geometry.

  7. Airwear 1.59 is an Essilor line made of impact-resistant polycarbonate. Such products are almost impossible to break, and therefore they are used for sports and children's glasses.
  8. Airwear 1.59 Transitions VII is a line made of impact-resistant polycarbonate with a photochromic coating. With its help, glasses darken in the light.
  9. AS Ormix 1.6 / AS Airwear 1.59 is an analogue of lenses created in an aspherical design. They turn out flatter and thinner, but the eyes take longer to get used to them. Optical distortions are reduced to zero.
  10. AS Stylis 1.67 is a series of thin and light lenses that reduce optical distortion. These glasses take time to get used to.
  11. AS Stylis 1.67 Transitions VII – the previous version, only with a photochromic coating that darkens in the light.
  12. AS Liners 1.74 are the thinnest essilor spectacle lenses with an aspherical design. They are designed for people with severe myopia.
  13. Anti-Fatigue Orma is a development designed to relieve eye fatigue. The low degree of asphericity and the special Essilor coating prevent the symptoms of visual fatigue from appearing when working at a computer for a long time. The series is intended for people from 16 to 40 years old.
  14. Intervista Orma 080 / 130 – essilor office lenses designed for reading. Through the area at the top, you can clearly see objects in the middle distance.
  15. Intervista Ormix 080 / 130 is a lighter and more sophisticated version of the previous series from Essilor.
  16. Multivision Orma is a series of standard design with a progressive lens for essilor glasses. It has several vision zones at the same time. This makes it possible to replace near glasses and gave patients after the age of forty one pair of glasses with multifocal lenses.
  17. Telemiarc 28 Orma is an essilor series with bifocal glasses combining two zones (for near and far).
  18. Varilux Orma Liberty / Comfort / Physio / Ipseo – a progressive series from traditional to progressive models. The complexity of the technique and high quality lies in the simple adaptation to glasses and clear vision.
  19. Varilux S-series is a progressive series of the latest generation. It is distinguished by an exclusive, innovative approach to surface formation, which significantly increases the width of the margins and the comfort of wearing glasses.

Essilor lens coatings

  • Trio is a double-sided multi-layer coating with a series of anti-reflective layers: dirt- and water-repellent, anti-reflective and strengthening. Light transmittance is estimated at 97%. High resistance to scratches. There is a slight blue reflex.
  • Supra is a hardening double-sided coating made of zirconium-based composite varnish.
  • Crizal Easy is a coating with several layers from a series of anti-reflective layers. Prevents the formation of scratches and cracks, and practically does not attract dust. There is a slight reflex of a light green hue.
  • Crizal Alize + - premium-level multi-layer coating. It consists of layers with dust-, water- and dirt-repellent properties. There is a slight reflex of a light green hue.
  • Crizal Forte UV is a premium coating made from several layers. An analogue of the previous generation, equipped with additional protection from ultraviolet radiation reflected from the inner surface of the glasses.
  • Prevencia is an exclusive coating from Essilor that protects the eyes from harmful computer radiation during prolonged use. It belongs to the Blue-lock class. It carefully adjusts the spectrum of the light flux, allowing all useful light to pass through and weakening the blue-violet high-energy part that causes eye fatigue.

Today, the latest generation of Essilor products is the Varilux S Series glasses. Only these glasses can provide maximum field of view, minimum “floating effect”, balance and normal visual perception. When creating them, Essilor took into account the maximum number of user needs.
