Reasons why you should avoid sex during treatment for thrush
Doctors give several reasons why you should avoid sex if you have thrush. First of all, of course, there is the risk of infecting a partner. The second significant reason is the risk of other infections.
The thing is that intimate intimacy always involves microtraumas, which on the inflamed surface of the genital organs can easily lead to additional infection.
Most often in this case, opportunistic microorganisms that were previously present in the microflora are involved. Cases of chlamydia, mycoplasma, and ureplasma are constantly being recorded against the background of untreated candidiasis in both sexual partners. Why make a problem worse when it can simply be fixed in a short period of time?
Main purposes for the drug Terzhinan
According to the instructions, vaginal tablets are indicated for use:
- for trichomonas and vaginitis caused by pyogenic pathogens
- acute and chronic colpitis of nonspecific or mixed origin, including recurrent ones;
- vaginal candidiasis;
- vaginal dysbiosis;
- ureaplasmosis.
To prevent the development of infectious inflammation in the uterine cavity and adjacent tissues, Terzhinan is prescribed:
- before childbirth;
- insertion of intrauterine devices;
- surgical interventions;
- carrying out abortions, diagnostic curettages;
- before checking the patency of the fallopian tubes.
Medical experience shows that the drug is much more effective than its analogues in treating complicated cases of diseases and rarely causes disturbances in the internal microflora. Terzhinan is better than other intravaginal medications in relieving the symptoms of recurrent thrush and exacerbations of ureaplasmosis.
Other reasons for abstinence during the treatment of thrush:
- after sexual intercourse, a woman always feels a burning sensation, itching and even pain, since the inflamed dry mucous membrane does not tolerate additional irritants;
- when using local contraceptives or moisturizers, the effectiveness of drugs for the treatment of thrush may significantly decrease, which will lead to an increase in the duration of treatment or even require a change in drug;
- sex with thrush can cause the infection to spread to the urethra, which will require more serious treatment;
- psychological discomfort will not allow a woman to tune in to the right mood; as a result, sex with thrush will turn into an unpleasant chore, which can not only spoil the mood, but also affect relationships.
What to do if your partner insists on intimacy?
A woman undergoing treatment for thrush, in most cases, puts her intimate life on pause; she simply does not experience sexual desire, since the strongly expressed sensations of pain and burning constantly remind of themselves. Of course, in such a situation, an understanding partner should simply wait for the end of treatment, especially since it takes no more than 7-10 days. To prevent relapse, the partner must also undergo a course of treatment recommended by the doctor.
Expert opinion
Many couples believe that during treatment for thrush they can opt for oral sex, but doctors insist that this is not an option. After all, fungi of the genus Candida multiply well on the surface of the oral mucosa, which will only aggravate the problem and make it more widespread.

If you still can’t live without intimacy, then doctors strongly recommend using a condom as a barrier contraceptive. The use of neutral moisturizers is also recommended, which will have a soothing effect on the inflamed vaginal mucosa. However, if a woman experiences serious pain after the start of sexual intercourse, then intimacy should be stopped. After all, the most important and most valuable thing is health. Do not be afraid to refuse your partner - a loving man will always understand and will definitely support. Moreover, it will be unpleasant for him to become infected with this disease himself or cause the woman he loves to become infected again. The best thing is to study information about the disease together, go for a consultation with a doctor and undergo a course of treatment together.
Expert opinion
In fact, candidiasis is not an STD, since it is caused not by a dangerous pathogen, but by an opportunistic microorganism that is normally present in the human genital tract. Therefore, it is impossible to become infected with thrush in the usual sense of the word during sexual intercourse, but this disease can be activated if it has not been fully cured.

General recommendations for thrush
In order to effectively cope with candidiasis and make the issue of sex with thrush irrelevant, you should adhere to a number of rules:
- During the entire treatment period, which rarely exceeds 14 days, you should avoid having sex. If for some reason this is not possible, then it is necessary to use high-quality barrier contraception.
- If the discomfort is severe, sex with thrush is strictly contraindicated.
- Chronic thrush and cases of infection spreading to the urinary tract completely exclude intimate intimacy.
- For the maximum effect of treatment, both partners should use antifungal drugs. As a rule, a man is prescribed creams or ointments that help get rid of thrush and prevent a relapse in a woman.
The most important rule for thrush is no self-medication.
To make a diagnosis and select medications, you should contact a gynecologist exclusively, without delaying the visit. It is optimal if this is a specialist who monitors you constantly, especially if you have a diagnosis of chronic candidiasis. In this case, the selection of the drug and the timing of treatment will be simpler.
As an additional remedy for the treatment of thrush, you can use the Gynocomfort Restoring Gel.

How to use Terzhinan
The medication is indicated for use in patients over 16 years of age. Terzhinan is not recommended for adolescents due to the imperfection of the internal vaginal microflora.
- Before use, it is recommended to moisten the tablet in warm water.
- Lying on your back, carefully insert the drug deep into the vagina.
- After administering Terzhinan, do not stand up for 10–15 minutes so that the candle does not accidentally fall out. The best time for the procedure is in the evening, before bed.
General treatment regimen: 1 tablet once every day for 6–20 days. For a preventive course, a week of use is enough. For acute conditions and recurrent pathologies, it is advisable to use the product for at least two weeks in a row. In case of menstrual flow, it is not recommended to interrupt treatment. The exception is an increase in tissue sensitivity and the appearance of irritation of the mucous membrane when exposed to the drug on these days.
During the period of using vaginal tablets, it is important to take good care of hygiene. Due to the specific secretions of the dissolved drug, more frequent changes of underwear are required. It is recommended to use gaskets with a sufficient degree of protection.
Sexual rest during therapy is not necessary, but may be recommended by a gynecologist. It is important to remember that nystatin in Terzhinan may reduce the effectiveness of barrier contraception.
After 5–7 days after the end of the course of treatment, a repeat laboratory test should be done to determine the presence of infection.

Hello. I have this problem. Constant thrush. Once a month consistently. I went to the doctors, took tests, prescribed treatment, got treatment, and after a short time everything started again. I don’t know what else to do.
Hello! In the case of a recurrent course of yeast colpitis, it is important, firstly, to determine sensitivity to antifungal drugs, secondly, to carry out treatment together with a partner, and thirdly, to replenish the lactoflora in the genital tract and balance the pH of the environment. I recommend adding Gynocomfort gel with tea tree oil to the complex treatment. This will help not only quickly extinguish the inflammatory reaction of the mucous membranes, but also correct the weakly acidic environment, which provides protection for the mucous membranes, due to the lactic acid included in the composition. It is also possible to exclude diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, leading to dysbiosis and decreased immunity.
Hello. This is the first time I've had this happen, but still. I had thrush. I took 1 Fucis tablet, it became easier, the next day I took 2 more. The discharge went away, but the pain remained. I apply the gel, but the inflammation does not go away. What to do?
Hello! I recommend performing an examination - a smear on the flora to clarify the infectious factor. Add Gynocomfort gel with tea tree oil to therapy, 1 dose once a day for 7 days. This will help not only relieve the manifestations of inflammation - swelling, pain, but also begin the stage of restoration of lactoflora in the genital tract.

Hello!
I recommend using Ginocomfort gel with tea tree oil, 1 dose once a day for 7 days. The composition of the gel will relieve residual effects of inflammation - swelling, vulnerability of the mucous membranes and replenish the balance of microflora and environment in the genital tract. The gel is introduced into the genital tract using an applicator and can be applied externally to disturbing areas. For an accurate diagnosis, contact a specialist
The mechanism of action of Terzhinan tablets
The instructions for the drug inform that Terzhinan has a pronounced antimicrobial and antiseptic effect, eliminates fungal infections, inflammatory processes, and helps restore the balance of internal microflora. The combination of active substances in it allows you to successfully treat advanced infectious diseases, including those of a combined nature, caused by several pathogens:
- gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria;
- pathogenic fungi;
- Trichomonas.
Terzhinan helps maintain the integrity of the epithelial covers of the mucous membranes, prevents exudative infiltration, the development of erosive and other lesions during inflammatory reactions, normalizes the pH level, alleviates the symptoms of the acute phase of diseases, helps to quickly get rid of itching, burning, tissue swelling and pathological discharge.
The high concentration of components ensures the rapid destruction of all pathogens sensitive to them before they have time to develop resistance to Terzhinan. It is likely that the active substances in the drug enhance the effectiveness and duration of action of each other.
Antibiotics and prednisolone in the medication are active only in the area of placement. They are not absorbed through the mucous membranes into the systemic circulation. The concentrations of active substances penetrating into the body are negligible.
