Men of any age always want to remain active and healthy in the intimate sphere. Having sex not only brings pleasure, but also gives vitality, a charge of vigor, and the preservation of youthful strength of spirit. Such pleasant physical activity improves metabolic processes in the body, stimulates blood circulation in internal organs, develops organs of movement, produces hormones of happiness, and maintains mutual understanding in relationships within a couple. Therefore, many men are interested in the question of the age-related duration of potency preservation.
According to research by andrologists, a man's sexual activity depends on his age. Everyone has their own reserve of sexual capabilities. With excellent health, in the absence of serious disturbances in the functioning of the organs and systems of the male body, or bad habits, good potency will remain at any age. Therefore, almost the entire male population of the planet carefully tries to protect their sexual health.
What is potency
To define sexual capabilities, the term “potency” is used - this is a man’s ability to satisfy women, conceive a child and perform full sexual intercourse. This aspect is considered from several angles; the main criteria may be:
- presence of sexual desire (libido);
- erection quality;
- duration of sexual intercourse;
- ejaculation and orgasm quality.
What affects potency
Experts in the field of andrology (the science that studies men's health) believe that the following factors influence sexual performance:
- Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis).
- Problems with the circulatory and hormonal systems of the body.
- Lifestyle. Smoking, alcohol, and lack of physical activity cause weakened libido and problems with potency in men.
- Psycho-emotional state. Due to stress and problems with a sexual partner, erectile dysfunction may occur, and it is impossible to predict at what age difficulties with potency will begin.
- Age. Over the years, testosterone levels decrease, which negatively affects sex life.

Dominance
Many animals have special signs on their bodies that directly indicate its ranking potential. In wasps these are bristles on certain parts of the body, in roosters - a high crest, in male deer - the size and branching of the antlers, etc. Humans also have such a sign - men. The size of the penis indicates the ranking potential of a man.
Despite the fact that the world's leading sexologists Masters and Johnson developed the 5-20 rule (for optimal sexual intercourse, a penis length of 5 cm and a friction time of 20 seconds are sufficient). For full-fledged sex (getting a bright vollust and orgasm) this is now clearly not enough. But sex is now used mainly for pleasure (recreational function) and less often for the birth of children (procreation function).
In May 2014, two international congresses on “Men’s Health” were held (Minsk, May 22-24 and St. Petersburg, May 24-26) and the 3rd All-Russian School of Pediatric Urology-Andrology “What’s new in pediatric urology?” with the 12th Educational Course in Pediatric Urology of the European Association of Pediatric Urologists. Despite the fact that they examined many problems associated with the surgical correction of malformations of the genitourinary tract; sexual problems (erection, ejaculation, orgasm, etc.) in connection with developmental defects: small penis, hypospadias, epispadias, bladder exstrophy, traumatic spinal cord disease (TSCD), varicocele, hypogonadism, transsexualism, etc., are practically not were considered. Malformations of the penis are not only small size, but also its function, which must be restored in the child as he grows up. There were no reports on the development of sexuality in children and adolescents. To my direct questions: “Are you involved in rehabilitation or habilitation (preparing the patient for future sexual activity) of sexual dysfunctions in adolescents?” — I always received a negative answer. This applies not only to our andrologists in Russia, but also to leading specialists in Western Europe.
A man starts with a dick, like a theater starts with a hanger
.
The boy grows with his penis, and grows old with it. But all men are lulled by a funny, or rather, touching human delusion - the habit of one’s own youth
and one’s “dignity.” We all tend to think that old age will not affect us. As I’m not the only one who notices, my peers are aging so quickly that it’s even... nice to watch. Obviously, we rarely look in the mirror ourselves...
Despite the fact that a person considers himself a reasonable, thinking person (Homo sapiens), in his youth, according to his basic instinct, he often thinks “with the wrong head,” which confirms his biological origin. The size of “manhood” has a certain symbolic essence - it is a kind of “EGO” for a real man. Micropenis and other deviations from the norm, not only imaginary, but also actual, contribute to dysmorphophobia and the formation of an inferiority complex. Evolutionarily, all this depends on the phallic culture.
Potency and age in men
Girls share theories with each other about the age at which a man remains sexually active. However, it is a mistake to believe that erectile dysfunction after 50 years is the norm. Andrologists argue that the physiological ability to live a full sexual life is influenced by the general state of health, and not by biological age. Naturally, a potency of 55 in men will be worse than in young guys.
However, statistics provide encouraging data: if there are no diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, cholesterol levels are not elevated, and the muscles have retained their elasticity, then there is no point in a man being afraid of problems with potency.
At what age does potency decrease in men?
When discussing the age up to which a man can maintain potency, the range from 50 to 60 years and older is often cited. In men after 30 years of age, testosterone levels in the blood decrease by 1% every year. The normal amount is from 12 to 33 conventional units. If a man is healthy, and at the age of 30 the hormone level was 33 conventional units, then after 50 years there will be no problems with potency.
If in middle age testosterone was less than 20 units, then by the age of 50 symptoms of sexual impotence may begin to appear. However, it is impossible to say exactly what age will become critical: it depends only on a man’s health until how many years he can maintain potency and desire.
Until what age can a man conceive a child?
Women who marry an older partner ask themselves: until how old can a man have children? Representatives of the stronger sex do not have a clear moment of menopause or menopause, like women, but the ability to conceive a child deteriorates over the years. The ideal reproductive age is 20-40 years.
In addition, after 45 years of age, the chances of conceiving a healthy baby decrease sharply. Even if a man has retained potency in adulthood, fertility deteriorates and genetic changes appear. This can provoke the development of various kinds of pathologies in the unborn child. Therefore, when deciding at what age a man should start a family, it is better not to delay.

Until what age does a man want a woman?
Sexual desire is influenced not so much by a man’s age, but by his physical and psychological health. Stress, excess weight, illness, and smoking negatively affect the quality of erections and the strength of sexual desire. Guys who have had regular and varied sex are more likely to avoid problems with potency in adulthood. Modern pharmacology provides a large selection of tablets that support desire, so potency can be maintained in men until old age.
Doctors' recommendations
When men's libido and erection begin to weaken, andrologists strongly recommend contacting them as early as possible for examination and establishing the cause of the problem. In the vast majority of cases, it can be solved by one method or another. Modern technologies make it possible to help men even at the most “tender” age.
Some men are simply embarrassed to address their sexual inadequacy, others consider it a humiliation of dignity, trying to resolve their issues on their own using dubious methods. We should not forget that sexual power is to a large extent a matter of a man’s honor and dignity, and it requires resolution.
In order not to lose sexual power, which is so important in a man’s life, and to preserve it until old age, a healthy lifestyle is the best and universal recipe. And if a problem does arise, then you should not despair, but have it professionally solved by a specialist.
When does impotence begin?
Representatives of the stronger sex are sensitive to intimate health, because it determines how many years a man can be a man. The development of age-related impotence makes itself felt by the age of 50. Changes begin in the body that activate the development of erectile dysfunction. Among them are the following:
- Collagen and elastic fibers lose their properties. The enlargement of the penis occurs due to these tissues, so loss of elasticity causes erection difficulties.
- Decreased collagen levels. This process causes venous leakage and a decrease in the level of blood permeability in the veins of the groin area. This is another reason why erectile dysfunction occurs.
- Decreased testosterone levels, androgen deficiency. Causes early loss of libido and impotence.
Statistics data
In 1948, a large-scale study was conducted on the age of impotence. 16,000 men took part. As a result of the study, a quarter of men aged 55-65 years had symptoms of impotence. The same figure for representatives of the stronger sex under 30 years of age was only 1%. Today, experts note a deterioration in the gene pool and a “rejuvenation” of impotence. If a similar study were conducted today, the percentage of young people suffering from sexual dysfunction would be much higher. Statistics provide slightly different data, but the average correlation between age and diagnosis of impotence problems is as follows.
Impotence at different ages:
- from 20 to 30 years old - 21% of men;
- from 30 to 40 years – 27%;
- from 40 to 50 years – 48%;
- over 50 years old – 53%.
The data are given taking into account the decrease in potency relative to its norm during a certain period of life. Statistics take into account not only men with complete impotence, but also those with its first manifestations. Scientists also noticed an interesting fact that the age of sexual dysfunction differs from country to country. For example, in Holland, only 9% of 50-60 year old men complain of impotence problems, and as they approach the age of 60-70, this percentage increases to 22%. The United States of America has the highest impotence rate in the world. The number of 70-year-old Americans with impotence reaches 67%, in the range of 40-70 years - more than 50%.
How to maintain potency until old age
If a man wants to make love until old age, he must follow the following rules to maintain potency:
- Follow the principles of proper nutrition. Eat more fruits, vegetables, fish and lean meats. Food should be varied.
- Play sports. Remember that actively gaining muscle mass can overload the body, so choose moderate physical activity. They will reduce the risk of diseases that negatively affect potency and support prostate health.
- Maintain vascular health. Atherosclerosis is the first enemy of healthy potency.
- Have sex regularly. In men who have intimate relationships less than twice a week, testosterone production decreases.
- Avoid stress. Mental stress stimulates the development of pathological processes in the body.
- Avoid bad habits. Tobacco and alcohol accelerate the aging process.
