Bedside and leg urine bags
How to choose a urinal?
A urinal is a disposable medical product necessary for collecting urine from patients with urinary disorders that require the use of drainage catheters - Foley catheters, three-way catheters for prostate diseases, nephrostomy catheters, cystostomies, ureterocutaneostomies. The urine bag is a sealed bag consisting of a reservoir where urine is collected, drainage tubes (including an anti-reflux valve), a universal connector for attaching a catheter, and a drain valve for emptying the urine bag. The urinal also has a system of various fastenings for fixing on the patient’s legs (wearable urinals) and hooks/holes for fastening near the patient’s bed. The wearable bags also have a soft non-woven coating on the back to protect the skin from irritation.
Urinals are divided into:
- Wearable (foot-mounted) - located on the patient’s thigh/shin and used in patients leading an active lifestyle. They are equipped with elastic fastenings and are invisible when worn. Their volume is 500-1000 ml.
- Bedside - urinals with a volume of 1000-4000 ml for collecting urine from bedridden patients and active patients at night. These urinals are attached to special stands or the patient’s bed.
- Pediatric - urinals with a volume of 100-200 ml for collecting urine in pediatric patients. They are divided into urinals for girls or boys, as well as universal models.
When choosing a urinal, pay attention to the volume of the urinal, the length of the drainage tubes, and its type. For patients leading an active lifestyle, it is advisable to purchase bedside models in addition to wearable ones, so as not to fear that it will overflow during sleep. It is better to take wearable urine bags with a non-woven soft covering to protect the skin from diaper rash and irritation.
- Always place the urine bag at a level below the waist;
- Do not forget to empty the urine bag when it is 1/2 or 2/3 full;
- Change your urine bag promptly! On average, we recommend changing the urine bag every 3 days;
- Wash your hands thoroughly and treat them with an antiseptic during any interaction with the urinal - when emptying it, replacing it;
- Monitor the condition of the drainage tubes - they should not be twisted or bent;
- Carefully secure the urine bag to your leg;
- During sleep, securely fix the urine bag;
- Contact your doctor or hospital immediately if there is mucus or blood in your urine, fever, or stoppage of urine output;
We recommend purchasing bedside and wearable urinals from Mederen (Israel). They are made of odor-resistant PVC, equipped with a universal connector for connection to Foley and three-way catheters, nephrostomy drains, cystostomies and Coloplast ureterocutaneostomies, and also have corrugated tubing protected from kinking. There is a choice of Standard series with a pull-out valve and Plus series with a T-shaped drain valve and a port for taking samples for analysis. All urinals have an anti-return (anti-reflux) valve.
Urinals (urinals) and colostomy bags
Alterna colostomy bags and urine receivers
Alterna plate
Alterna® two-piece colostomy bags have a mechanical flange - a fastening ring-latch, which has unique reliability
The ostomy bag is securely attached to the flange of the adhesive plate using a snap ring. An audible signal (click) confirms that the bag is securely fastened to the plate.
Before securing the bag to the plate, it should be rotated to a position that is convenient for you without removing it from the flange of the plate.
The bags should be changed more often than the plates; to do this, they must be disconnected from the plate.
Alterna® two-piece colostomy bags are available with a variety of plates: standard, long-term wear, erosion resistant, flat or convex, with a variety of flange sizes and stoma cutouts. The plates are used with drainable, undrained or urostomy bags. The product range includes adhesive sheets with various flanges, cut-out holes and opaque ostomy bags.
Adhesive plate with a spiral structure - reliable adhesion and skin protection
Alterna® adhesive plate (adhesive) of a spiral structure, consisting of two alternating adhesive layers (adhesives), reliably adheres to the skin and, due to its ability to absorb (absorb) skin moisture, maintains the normal condition of the skin under the plate and protects it from irritation.
The Alterna Extra adhesive plate has increased resistance to erosion and provides reliable protection against the aggressive effects of intestinal contents or urine. This plate is intended for people with ileostomies or urostomies, with more “aggressive” discharge from the stoma, which quickly damages standard plates.
Convex plates for flat and retracted stomas
The convex plates of Alterna two-piece colostomy bags have different depths of convexity for flat or retracted stomas, as well as for stomas located between skin folds. The reinforced convex flange of these plates applies pressure to the area around the stoma, which allows the stoma to be raised above skin level, thereby reducing the risk of bowel contents leaking under the plate.
Plates of low convexity (convexity)
Plates for flat or slightly retracted stomas provide skin protection by optimally targeting the retracted area around the stoma.
Plates of high convexity (convexity)
Plates for retracted stomas, as well as for stomas located in deep skin folds, provide skin protection due to optimal directed pressure on the retracted area around the stoma.
Non-drainable colostomy bag Alterna Free
In Alterna® Free one-piece undrained colostomy bags, the adhesive strip is permanently connected to the ostomy bag. When replacing, the one-component colostomy bag is removed entirely.

Colostomy bags with built-in convex plates for retracted stomas
The Alterna Free one-piece drainable colostomy bag with a built-in convex plate is intended for flat or retracted stomas, as well as for stomas located between skin folds. The convex plate applies pressure to the area around the stoma, which allows the stoma to be raised above the skin level, thereby reducing the risk of intestinal contents leaking under the plate.
